We spent the night at my Mom's house on Monday night before we left. I'll say "spent the night" lightly because we had to wake up at 1:30 to leave the house at 2:30 to be at Little Rock for our 6am flight. We chose to fly out of Little Rock to save a little money...even though we had to get up early, $300 is enough savings for that!!
Luci slept up until it was time to go through security. I wouldn't say we are pros by any means taking a small child through airport security, but this was our second time with her and we figured we would do ok. We did. Everything went perfect. What was even more perfect was that Luci slept both plane rides (we connected in Chicago) and only woke up to talk a little bit about "airpanes" and how excited she was to see "airpanes". Our child was an angel and I was sooooo proud of her!!! I had packed our "treats and toy" bag and was armed with a baby, blankie, books, coloring books, crayons, DVD player, goldfish snacks, teddy grahams, and fruit snacks. I only had to get out the baby and blankie on the flights up to D.C.! I saved the rest of my "tricks" for the flight home! (Although I will spill the beans now, she was an absolute angel on the trip home, although I did have to pull out a few more toys!)

We arrived in D.C. (my Mom, Mitch, Luci, and I and then one of Mitch's colleagues and her fam) around 1:00 p.m. est. We took the shuttle to our hotel and immediately decided to venture out. We grabbed a little lunch and then took the Metro to the National Mall (which if you haven't been to D.C. before this does not mean an actual shopping mall...this is just the term for the national-park that has everything from the Capitol to the Washington Monument in it.) We first went to the Natural History Museum and spent some time there. After that, we were completely worn out from zero sleep and our day of travels so we went back to our hotel for the night.

Stopping for a bite to eat at Five Guys
Yay we are finally here!!

Memorial Day Weekend 2011
We went on our annual Branson Memorial Day Weekend Trip last weekend. We went to Silver Dollar City for a few hours, did LOTS of shopping, and did a little swimming!
On the morning that we went to SDC, I slathered Luci in SPF 50 baby sunscreen. I guess I assumed all Baby sunscreen is "tear-free." Well FYI, it isn't. At some point Luci rubbed her eyes and for the next 2 hours her poor little eyes just teared up and watered. She was miserable. I kept trying to flush it out but the only thing that ever made it better was when she finally just fell asleep. I felt horrible for her. SDC was not very fun because she her eyes were watering so bad that she didn't want to do anything. :-( ...so before we went to D.C. (there will be probably a week of posts on D.C. later to come) I purchased "Tear-free" sunscreen ...and all was well! Another Mommy Lesson learned.

A Letter to Luci- Happy 2nd Birthday
First we had each other, then we had YOU, now we have EVERYTHING!
Dear Luci,
I have been thinking for weeks what I would write you in this letter. Why you ask was I thinking about it so much? Because there is not an hour that goes by at work when my thoughts don't go to you. Momma hates it that she has to spend so much time away from you during the day, but I think it is good for both of us. You spend your time learning and playing with friends (and staying on a strict schedule) while Momma helps with the household fund and gets some adult interaction. The first year you were in daycare I was a crazy person. I went by to see you every single day. Not because I missed you, (don't get me wrong, I did) but because I was crazy worried about you. Not only have you grown since then, but so have I. I figured out that you are going to be ok! Everyone told me that it would get easier everyday once I went back to work. It didn't. It got harder and harder. Now, it seems easier to drop you off, but I think it is just because Momma is a little numb to it now. Momma still calls daycare to check on you when you don't feel good or when you had a bad morning, but I do not stop by during the day...unless it is for a party or program!
Luci, you have turned our world upside down! Everything we do is completely and totally involved around you. And you know what, we would not have it any other way. We love you so much.
There are a few things that Momma and Daddy want you to know at this point in your life...
1. We love you and have always wanted you.
2. Momma and Daddy love each other very much.
3. We want you to know how much Jesus loves you and how much he blesses our family daily.
It is such a pleasure watching you grow! What are you doing now you ask?
Saying lots of new words everyday and learning how to put those words together! Some new words you have used within the last week are "reach" and "microphone"! You love singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", "Jesus Loves Me, and "Deep and Wide". You don't have all of the words down, but you can definitely hear all of the inflections in your voice! Everytime we get in the car, you DEMAND that I turn "Deep and Wide" on...and even though I am tired and want to relax with some of my music, I happily oblige and we sing all the way to and from daycare. I love our special little moments.
You are getting more picky with your food. For almost one week straight, I could not get you to eat anything for dinner besides a colby jack cheese stick, cottage cheese, and cucumbers and ranch! You still LOVE milk and it is always your first choice for drink! I can almost coax you to eat about anything as long as you can dip it in ranch dressing or ketchup! You love goldfish crackers and fruit snacks!
You play so well! Your favorite thing to play is "baby". You will do everything with your babies...feed them, rock them, put them to bed, and even put them in time out while you issue out a firm "no no!!"!!! It is so cute! You love to play outside! You love to read books! One of your favorite books is "Goodnight Moon". We read that to you almost every night! You almost have it memorized!
You are such a big helper and will always help Momma or Daddy when they ask you to. You are generally always happy and easy going; however, the tantrums and stubborness are rearing their ugly heads! The time-outs are becoming more frequent. Luci, you are just like me. You have a mind of your own and like things your way. You are like your Daddy too, though. You are easy going and can light up a room in an instant!
You weigh right around 25-26 lbs. You are wearing 24 months or 2T clothes. They are still a little baggy on you sometimes, but 18 month clothes are way too small! You are in size 4 diapers, and we are letting you wear pull-ups when you want to!
You LOVE LOVE LOVE to use the potty...although Momma is a little worried because most of the time you just want to sit on the potty so you can play with toilet paper and eventually flush! We are going to really move into "full-force" potty training this summer. I know you are almost there, we just want to give you a bit longer!
Luci, we can not begin to say how much we love you! We are so happy to be your Mommy and Daddy!!! Always know Jesus loves you and so do we! Happy Birthday Sis!

Luci's 2nd Mickey and Minnie Birthday Bash!!!
We celebrated Luci's 2nd Birthday this weekend with a Mickey and Minnie Party!!! Wow...we have some incredible people in our lives! I am so thankful that we have such amazing family and friends that helped spend the afternoon celebrating with us! We had cake, ice cream, M&M's (Luci's favorite!), capri suns, and soda. The kids took home Mickey and Minnie coloring books and crayons, and a Mickey Mouse bubble wand with bubbles. It was such a fun afternoon and we all enjoyed ourselves! Luci got so many fun toys and clothes and has been playing with her new toys non-stop!
Mommy Mouse, Daddy Mouse, and the star of the day, Luci Mouse!!
Ooo...I just really want to taste it!!!
Party Favors and Presents!
Luci and her Aunt "Nata"!
Some of the guests (I will not show any children on here without permission :0)
The Cake
Blowing out the #2 candle!
Opening presents
Luci's Mimi made her party dress!
Luci riding her new tricycle!
Special thanks to Kerri and Kristal and her family for showing up early to help me set up and for helping out during the party! Also, I am so thankful for each and every person who took time out of their day to spend with us! I just can't begin to tell you how overwhelmed we were with the outpouring of love from everyone!
I just can't believe my baby girl is almost 2!!! Her actual birthday is this week!! On this day 2 years ago, we were signing papers for a brand new crossover SUV and moving into our new house... I decided pretty randomly (while on bedrest mind you) that I didn't want Luci coming home from the hospital in the old Malibu...so the huge preggo lady waddled (again, supposed to be on bed rest) around a car lot, told off a salesperson, and we came home with a new car...invoice price, 0% interest...Lol! In the meantime, Mitch was moving all of our stuff from a third floor apartment over to the new house everyday after work. We spent 2 days in our new house before I had her! What were we thinking?!?! Haha! Oh, the memories!!!!
Look for a special birthday post about Luci later this week!!

All About Momma's
Sunday was my 2nd Mother's Day, my Momma's 30th Mother's Day, my Nana's 59th Mother's Day, and my sister's 6th Mother's Day! That is a lot of years of being a mother, and I have learned from the best! I have some wonderful women in my life, and I can only hope that I can show Luci the same love and support that they have shown me. Luci is my world, and I am so thankful that God chose me to be her Momma!!
Me and Luci on Mother's Day
