We spent the night at my Mom's house on Monday night before we left. I'll say "spent the night" lightly because we had to wake up at 1:30 to leave the house at 2:30 to be at Little Rock for our 6am flight. We chose to fly out of Little Rock to save a little money...even though we had to get up early, $300 is enough savings for that!!
Luci slept up until it was time to go through security. I wouldn't say we are pros by any means taking a small child through airport security, but this was our second time with her and we figured we would do ok. We did. Everything went perfect. What was even more perfect was that Luci slept both plane rides (we connected in Chicago) and only woke up to talk a little bit about "airpanes" and how excited she was to see "airpanes". Our child was an angel and I was sooooo proud of her!!! I had packed our "treats and toy" bag and was armed with a baby, blankie, books, coloring books, crayons, DVD player, goldfish snacks, teddy grahams, and fruit snacks. I only had to get out the baby and blankie on the flights up to D.C.! I saved the rest of my "tricks" for the flight home! (Although I will spill the beans now, she was an absolute angel on the trip home, although I did have to pull out a few more toys!)

We arrived in D.C. (my Mom, Mitch, Luci, and I and then one of Mitch's colleagues and her fam) around 1:00 p.m. est. We took the shuttle to our hotel and immediately decided to venture out. We grabbed a little lunch and then took the Metro to the National Mall (which if you haven't been to D.C. before this does not mean an actual shopping mall...this is just the term for the national-park that has everything from the Capitol to the Washington Monument in it.) We first went to the Natural History Museum and spent some time there. After that, we were completely worn out from zero sleep and our day of travels so we went back to our hotel for the night.
