Getting Personal- A Look Into My Adoption

As most of you know, I am adopted! This is something I am extremely proud of! 25 years ago today, my mom and dad picked me up from some foster parents that were keeping me! I get asked questions all the time about this...so I thought I would answer a few of them for you...

1. Do you know who your real parents are? This question will usually get an eye roll from me and a smart alec response..."as opposed to my fake parents..." Oh, I fully understand the question. You want to know if I know who my BIOLOGICAL parents are...but that is not what you asked. :-)
Answer: No, I don't. I don't really have a desire to. I have parents...REAL ones...they just didn't physically create me.

2. Is your sister your real sister? Again...This question will usually get an eye roll from me and a smart alec response..."as opposed to my fake sister..."
Answer: No, we are not biological sisters...but yes, she is my REAL sister!

3. You and your sister look alike...and you look like your mom...and your Nana
Answer: Why thank you very much! I think God knew exactly what he was doing! However, we really don't look that much alike...it is the blonde hair...we all get it out of a box...shhh...don't tell anyone!

You know I've been around people all of my life that would make comments such as "I told my sister she was adopted and she used to cry" or "isn't that so sad that so and so is adopted"... These comments used to really make me mad and they still get under my skin a little bit, but you know what I've come to realize as I've got older... The fact that I'm adopted makes me WAY more special than YOU! Here's why...

1. My parents got to pick me, your parents got stuck with you.
2. The first time your parents saw you, you were screaming your head off. The first time mine saw me, I gave them a big smile.
3. After 7 years of waiting for my sis and 5 years of waiting for me, I'm pretty sure my parents were way more excited about getting us than perhaps yours were about having you! (maybe not, but let's just say :-0 )
4. I have a way more cooler story to tell than you!! (Ask me sometime and I'll tell you!)

I have always said that God has a special plan for my life. I didn't have a perfect start getting into this world, but I'm pretty sure in that parking lot 25 years ago on December 31st, God knew that one day there would be an 18 year old boy making a decision about going to college. He would go out on a limb to attend a college that he had never heard of before. God knew that this would be the perfect man for me to marry and together we would be the perfect parents for a little girl he would send to us 5 years later.

So to God I give the glory...Thank you for my REAL parents, my REAL sister, my REAL family, my REAL husband, and my REAL daughter!!!!!
