The First Trim

A few days ago, I finally gave in and decided to trim Luci's hair. I had scheduled her an appointment a couple of weeks ago, but chickened out because I just didn't want to accept the fact that my precious little girl needed her hair trimmed. Weird, I know. Well, after weeks of trying to keep her bangs pulled back with a bow, I decided to go ahead and trim the bangs myself. It was painless for both her and I...and took about 30 seconds. Her hair is definitely in the "in-between" stage of growing, but at least she can see now! LOL!

So Let Them Be Little

So let them be little, 'cause they're only that way for a while.

Give them hope, give them praise,

Give them love everyday.

Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,

Let 'em sleep in the middle,

Oh, but let them be little.

We love you Luci! Happy 14 months today!!!

Deep in the Heart of Texas

We are back from our fun-filled weekend in Texas!! We had a blast!!! The trip included myself, Mitch, Luci, my aunt, 3 cousins, and my great uncle and aunt. We started our trip driving to Texarkana, Texas on Thursday night and staying at my Aunt's house. We got up early Friday morning and drove to Rockwall to meet my cousins that were coming back from church camp. Then the 10 ten of us drove to Arlington. We checked in at our hotel and then my mom, Mitch, Luci and I drove to the Texas Ranger Ball Park to check out the merchandise store. While we were there it started pouring...Mitch was so worried that the game may not happen...

We drove back to our hotel and met up with my great uncle who scored us great tickets to the game!!! We were behind home plate on the 21st row!!! My aunt and Nana watched Luci at the hotel while the rest of us went to the game. It was still sprinkling when we arrived, but it stopped just in time!! Coming from the girl, who doesn't know a foul from an error, I must admit that I had a blast at the game!!! The Rangers scored a home run right off and we had so much fun cheering them on! I think the best part for me was watching Mitch watch his favorite team and know that he was truly enjoying himself!!!

The next day, a few of us (not Luci) went to Six Flags in the lovely 100 degree heat. We made it until 4:00 and then we were pooped!! We had so much fun heat or not! We purchased "Flash Passes" which allowed us to not wait in the line. Let me tell, it was worth every penny!! We got to ride all the big coasters and water rides that we wanted and the most we waited was like 15 minutes!! I hadn't been to Six Flags since I was younger and Mitch had never been, and we had so much fun spending the day together!!!

On Sunday, we got up and checked out of the hotel and drove to Grapevine, Texas to do a little shopping and eat at the Rain Forest Cafe! Luci enjoyed looking at everything and was so fascinated she barely touched her food (which is unusual for my "good eater")!!! We shopped just for a bit and decided it was time to get on the road.

Mitch and I had so much fun this weekend, and what made it so special is that we got to spend time with our Texas family!!!

Just a side note: We were planning a trip to Myrtle Beach next year for our family vacation, but after the 6 hour trip to Arlington, Luci has decided for us that the 13 hour drive to Myrtle Beach is not possible...so unless we decide to fly, it will be Branson for us next year!!!!...I knew there was a reason we decided to fly to Orlando this year!!!

Mitchapoolza

We celebrated Mitch's birthday this weekend! Friday night, we had the Grounds Family over for Pizza and Dessert and had a really nice time hanging out and relaxing! Saturday morning, we ran errands, had left over pizza for lunch and then met my mom in Charleston to drop Luci off for the night so Mitch and I could have a date night. This was only the 2nd time that Luci has had an overnight trip away from me. I completely trust Luci in my mom's care, but it is just so hard to spend a night away from her when I am away from her from 7:30-5:30 every week day; but nevertheless, Mitch and I needed a date night that was kid free!! We went to Fuji Japanese Steakhouse and had Steak, Chicken, and Shrimp! Yummy! Afterwards, we went a bought a new lawn mower (romantic, huh?! LOL) and then went home and watched The Bounty Hunter. It was a really good movie and we had a lot of fun just relaxing and not chasing around a toddler!!! Sunday, we drove to Paris for church and then had birthday dinner (oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fried okra, peas, macaroni and cheese, rolls, and strawberry 4 layer delight...my mom and Nana are great cooks!!) with Mark, Quinn, Brendon, Nana, Dad and Mom, and Mitch opened his gifts! He got a new phone charger and a Rangers gift card from Luci and I to use at the stadium this next weekend!! Then we all took afternoon naps (best part of the day!!) All and all, we had a really fun weekend, and we are really excited about the rest of Mitch's birthday this weekend in Texas!!! Yay for Rangers game and Six Flags!!!

We also got some pictures back from Kay Reed who took some shots of Luci this summer. I have attached some her of pics!!! Enjoy!!

~Random Happenings~

-We went to Broken Arrow last weekend to celebrate our nieces 2nd birthday!! It was an Elmo themed party and Miss A was so adorable opening her presents and playing with her toys! It was Luci's first birthday party to go to as a guest and she had a lot of fun playing with all the girls, her cousins, and all their toys! LOL!

-We finally bought Luci a big girl car seat! She finally weighs enough for us to face her forward in the seat!

-We also bought Luci a potty chair this past weekend and she used it for the first time last night!! She had quite the confused look on her face when Mitch and I were dancing around and yelling "Yay Luci!" She had no idea what she had just done! We have no intentions of forcing potty training at this young of age, but we thought it would be fun to get her used to the chair!

-We have Mitch's birthday coming up this weekend and I made one of his favorite desserts last night so that we could eat on it the rest of the week and weekend! I will post the recipe at the end of this post!

-We finally decided to try some sleep training this past week...let's just say that Luci is not a fan. After 2 1/2 hours of crying two nights in a row and almost vomiting last night, Mitch and I decided that Mr. Feurber is not the man of the hour for Luci. It works for some and not for others...it is just not for us. I am away from her 10+ hours a day...so if she needs me at night, then I will be there for her. End of story.

-Luci is amazing me daily with how fast she is catching on to things and soaking up everything we do. She pretends to talk on the phone and brush her hair! It is so cute! I love to see her personality developing! One of the things that she does about every day is point and beg to go riding in her car. Everyday when we get home from work, Mitch will put her in it and ride her around to check the mail. We usually try to take her out a couple of times a week for longer rides, but usually just the mail check will satisfy her for a bit! She just absolutley loves it!!!

-We have a family fun weekend next weekend in Texas! We are going to a Ranger's game (right behind home plate!!), six flags, and maybe a little shopping!!! My mom and Nana are going with us to visit with family (and help watch Luci :0) !!! I will post details after the trip!! This will be my first Rangers game and Mitch's first time to Six Flags!

Well, that is about all for now!!!

It won't be like this for long

So the past few months (basically most of Luci's life after month 5)have been pretty rough on Mitch and I in the sleep department. Luci had chronic ear infections as an infant and we dealt with ear infections every month up until she got tubes put in her ears at the start of her 11th month. She would cry, sob, and scream every night. It broke our heart and we would rock our baby until we couldn't anymore and we would switch. I never knew heartache could hurt so bad until my own baby was hurting and I couldn't help her. Well, we got tubes put in her ears and it has helped her ear infections tremendously...like we haven't had an infection since (note I only said infection). Luci was quite the late bloomer with teeth and did not get her first one until she was 10 months old...so what does that mean for her? They all come in at once. She has had 5 (and a half)teeth come in in under 3 months! Yikes! So, what does that mean for her (and us)...long, painful nights of crying, sobbing, and screaming. NO FUN! Her teeth have caused swollen gums, runny nose, and yes, you guessed it...EAR ACHES! Ug. Needless to say, Mitch and I are exhausted. I absolutely can not stand to see our baby in pain and it hurts me (us) so...but oh, how we both need sleep. Our average is about 4 hours a night and let me say again, WE ARE EXHAUSTED. It disappoints me so much because I thought after her tubes that we were in the clear for full night's rest...boy was I wrong. But as tired, exhausted, sleepy, tired, and exhausted as I am...Every night when I get her calm and it is just me and her rocking in her dark room at night...this song just goes through my head...

He didn't have to wake up
He'd been up all night
Layin’ there in bed listenin’
To his new born baby cry
He makes a pot of coffee
He splashes water on his face
His wife gives him a kiss and says
It gonna be OK

It won’t be like this for long
One day we'll look back laughin’
At the week we brought her home
This phase is gonna fly by
So baby just hold on
‘Cause it won't be like this for long

Four years later ‘bout 4:30
She's crawling in their bed
And when he drops her off at preschool
She's clinging to his leg
The teacher peels her off of him
He says what can I do
She says now don't you worry
This’ll only last a week or two

It won’t be like this for long
One day soon you'll drop her off
And she won’t even know you're gone
This phase is gonna fly by
If you can just hold on
It won’t be like this for long

Some day soon she'll be a teenager
And at times he'll think she hates him
Then he'll walk her down the aisle
And he'll raise her veil
But right now she's up and cryin’
And the truth is that he don't mind
As he kisses her good night
And she says her prayers

He lays down there beside her
‘Til her eyes are finally closed
And just watchin’ her it breaks his heart
Cause he already knows

It won’t be like this for long
One day soon that little girl is gonna be
All grown up and gone
Yeah, this phase is gonna fly by
So, he's tryin’ to hold on

‘Cause it won’t be like this for long

It won’t be like this for long

It won’t be like this for long

Yeah, it is rough right now on the Minnick family, but I have a healthy, happy girl and I know to cherish every moment, good or bad, because...It won't be like this for long. :-)
